“The Rapid, the public transportation
agency serving the six city area, will be asking voters on May
3rd to approve a millage renewal and increase to
fund current transit operations and future service
enhancements throughout the entire service area. The proposed
enhancements are the first phase of a 20 year master plan
which was adopted by The Rapid’s Board of Directors in the
summer of 2010. In summary, the enhancements would include
more frequent bus service, service later at night and on the
weekend, as well as additional connection and transfer
options, including an express route (Bus Rapid Transit)
connecting the Division Avenue corridor to the Medical Mile.
These enhancements would translate into a system that is more
convenient and more comprehensive, which would allow workers,
employers, students, and all riders to connect with more
neighborhoods, businesses, medical facilities, and many other
everyday needs. Under this proposal, every route operated by
The Rapid would see an enhancement, which would benefit all
the communities in the service area. The cost of this increase
would be an extra $17.50/year for a home valued at $100,000
(current millage rate is 1.12, the proposal raises that rate
to 1.47). For complete details of the plan, please visit www.rapidtmp.org.” |
