Spring Safety Tips
§ Warm weather is almost here and kids will be out and about. Be alert.
§ Open doors and windows make easy access for burglars. When you leave them open, even for a short time, make sure they are properly secured. When you are gardening or relaxing in your back yard, who is coming to your front door? Keep front and side doors locked when you are in your yard.
§ Don’t leave items out in the yard to tempt passers-by. Lock them in the garage.
§ Open garage doors let passers-by and potential criminals “shop around” for lawn mowers, snow blowers, bicycles, and sports equipment. Don’t advertise!
§ Ladies: Don’t hang your purse on the back of the kitchen chair or put it on the kitchen counter within easy reach of a door or window. Keep it in a closet or drawer. Out of sight-out of mind.
§ When leaving on vacation, always make your home appear occupied. Use timers on interior lights. Have someone draw the drapes, move vehicles in the driveway, and collect mail and newspapers. For longer periods, make sure your lawn is mowed.
§ Unlocked vehicles are often an open invitation for prowlers to enter and take what they find, including such things as coins, clothing, electronics, sunglasses, etc. Try to remember to remove your valuables from the vehicle each night and keep your vehicle locked. Always remove the keys! Never leave important papers in the vehicle.
§ Interested in utilizing an engraver to mark your valuables or want to schedule a free home security survey? Call SWAN at 456-9190 to schedule an appointment for the free services.
